BEDSPREAD CONSISTS OF A NUMBER OF DESIGN BLOCKS KNIT TOGETHER (SOME KNITTING HAS BEEN PULLED). TASSELS 7.6 CM IN L. ON SIDES. YELLOW DISCOLORATION IN AREAS, HANDMADE. 2 PLACES ON ONE END HAVE ABOUT 1 INCH LENGTH OF TASSEL MISSING. PIECE HAS BEEN STRETCHED FROM USE. SEE CONSERVATION REPORT.

ALL ARTIFACTS WERE MADE BY DONOR'S GREAT GRANDMOTHER, ALIZ (SOMMERS) GLAZIER (EXCEPT SHOES & TABLECLOTH), WIFE OF RE. ADAM GLAZIER OF CAPE CROKER, INDIGENOUS RESERVATION IN ONTARIO (1860-70). DAUGHTER ELIZABETH JANE (GLAZIER) STEWERT MARRIED THOMAS ADAM STEWART IN ONTARIO. MOVED & SETTLED IN PARKLAND, ALBERTA IN 1909 BRING HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. ARTIFACTS PASSED FROM MOTHER TO DAUGHTER (DONOR), BARBARA (STEWART) BASTEDO. *UPDATE* THE DONATION OF BARBARA BASTEDO WAS RESEARCHED AS PART OF A 2018 ARTIFACT SURVEY CONDUCTED BY COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT ELISE PUNDYK. ATTEMPTS MADE TO CONTACT THE DONOR TO ATTAIN FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE ITEMS' USE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. LETHBRIDGE-BASED ARCHIVAL RESEARCH CONDUCTED TO LOCATE FURTHER INFORMATION OF THE GLAZIER AND STEWART FAMILIES DID NOT COME UP WITH FURTHER RESULTS. PLEASE SEE PERMANENT FILE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

INDIVIDUAL BLOCKS ARE MADE OF PIECES, STRIPS. MACHINE SEWN PATCHWORK, STITCHED TO BACKING BY HAND. STRIPS SEWN IN GEOMETRIC PATTERNS. GENERALLY IN STAINED CONDITION. SILK IS WEARING THROUGH AND TEARING IN SEVERAL PLACES. GREEN BACKING IS DISCOLORED.

THE DOCUMENTATION WORK IS KNOWN AS THE ALBERTA QUILT PROJECT. IN ADDITION TO HEINS’ PROGRAM, THE DATA IS ALSO SUPPOSED TO BE SUBMITTED AS PART OF THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE NORTH AMERICAN QUILT INDEX. THIS QUILT HAS BEEN ASSIGNED NO. “AQP 2-0276” BY THE ALBERTA QUILT PROJECT.

RECTANGULAR, WHITE, LINEN. ENDS ARE HEMMED; SIDE EDGES ARE RAW, BUT IN GOOD CONDITION. EMBROIDERED, IN BLUE, IN ONE CORNER IS "C C S". THIS CORNER OF THE SHEET IS MADE OUT OF AN ADDITIONAL RECTANGLE OF FABRIC, SEWN TO THE MAIN PIECE. SHEET HAS A 6.5 CM TEAR IN IT, AND A FEW SMALLER TEARS AND HOLES IN THE SAME GENERAL AREA. MULTIPLE BROWN STAINS AND SPOTS THROUGHOUT.
