History
BELIEVED THAT ED SHARON (RELATED TO NICHOLAS SHERAN?) BROUGHT THE STICK FROM IRELAND. HE GAVE IT TO PETE ORME WHO DELIVERED WATER TO THE RESIDENTS OF THE NO. 3 AREA OF NORTH LETHBRIDGE. THE ARTIFACT WAS THEN GIVEN TO THE DONOR'S FATHER, JOHN BERTE OWNER OF BERTE'S GROCERY STORE FROM 1907-1942. THE STICK REMAINED IN BERTE'S HOME IN WHICH THE DONOR WAS BORN AND STILL REMAINS. SEE ATTACHED PHOTO OF PETE ORME, NICKNAMED COCA-COLA PETE. SEE COLLECTION REPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION ON MR. ORME. SHILLELAGH WAS TRADITIONALLY A CUDGEL MADE OF BLACK OAK.
