History / Biographical
James Sheran, a first cousin of Nicholas Sheran, arrived in Southern Alberta on 6 May 1886, almost exactly four years after Nicholas' death at Kipp's Crossing. James had come to operate the Sheran Coal Mine by agreement with Marcella McFarland, Nicholas' sister and executor of his estate. The agreement lasted until 26 September 1888, when Marcella obtained a court ruling to force James to vacate the mine. James received 3 head of cattle as compensation.
