The drawings in this fonds respresent the design work of Medicine Hat artist James Marshall, who was commissioned by the Oddfellows Lodge No. 2 of Lethbridge to create 12 brick murals depicting the history and growth of the city. The Lodge paid all costs with the exception of a plaque to acknowledge the project. The murals, carved in brick, are installed in 12 columns on the north side of Lethbridge City Hall at 910 4 Avenue South.
Mr. Marshall created the murals by building a project wall in his studio. He drew the mural designs on the all and then chiselled out the design from top to bottom. Once the work is completed the mural was diassembled, the bricks numbered for re-assembly, and the finished work shipped to Lethbridge for installation in City Hall. Installation of the murals took place from the bottom to the top, each mural in turn. Bricks for the murals were pruchased from LXL Industries in Medicine Hat.
