History
ACCORDING TO INSPECTOR BILL KAYE, HE USED THIS BAG IN CONJUNCTION WITH HIS POLICE SERVICE DOG ZORKO. IT WAS USED TO CARRY DOG SUPPLIES AND WAS ISSUED BY THE LETHBRIDGE POLICE FORCE (LPF). HE SAID "I ALWAYS CARRIED THE BAG WITH ME IN MY PERSONAL VEHICLE... IF WE GOT CALLED AT HOME I WOULD OFTEN GO RIGHT FROM HOME TO WHERE WE WERE NEEDED SO YOU HAD YOUR TOOLS WITH YOU BASICALLY. YOU HAD THEM WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES." THE BAG USUALLY HELD THE SIX FOOT LEASH AND THE BRUSH AND MAYBE SOME OTHER LEASHES. THE BAGS WERE MADE AND PERSONALIZED BY A SMALL LEATHER MAKER. OFFICERS IN THE CANINE UNIT ARE STILL ISSUED BAGS TODAY ALTHOUGH THEY DO NOT RESEMBLE THE ONE USED BY KAYE. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE HISTORY OF ZORKO AND THE CANINE UNIT SEE P20080008001. THE ALUMNI STATE, “WALKERS NOW HAVE BEEN IMPROVED TREMENDOUSLY FOR PATIENT COMFORT AND SAFETY.” THIS ARTIFACT IS AMONG A COLLECTION DONATED NEAR THE END OF 2014, BEING THE SECOND WAVE OF GSN ARTIFACTS ACQUIRED THAT YEAR. WITH THE FIRST WAVE OF GSN ARTIFACTS COLLECTED IN SUMMER 2014, COLLECTIONS TECHNICIAN KEVIN MACLEAN INTERVIEWED THE PAST ARCHIVISTS OF THE GALT SCHOOL OF NURSING COLLECTION, SHIRLEY HIGA, ELAINE HAMILTON, AND SUE KYLLO, ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE GSN ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION AND THE HISTORY OF ARTIFACTS DONATED.
