LETHBRIDGE POLICE SUPERINTENDENT GLEN MICHELSON STATED THAT THE FUR COATS WERE “A MUST WALKING THE BEATS ON COLD WINTER NIGHTS” FOR BEAT CONSTABLES. HE BELIEVED THAT THEY WERE TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE SOMETIME “AROUND 1956” AND REPLACED WITH “GREAT COATS AND PEA JACKETS”. MANY FUNNY RET. OFFICER STORIES EXIST AND MICHELSON ADDED THAT “AROUND 1948, GRANT YOUNG CONSTABLE WAS STANDING STILL AT THE CORNER OF 4TH AVENUE AND 6TH STREET AND A DOG USED HIM AS A FIRE HYDRANT.”

SIX BUTTONS AT FRONT CLOSURE; SIX ADDITIONAL BUTTONS AROUND INTERIOR OF WAISTBAND FOR CONNECTING SUSPENDERS. POCKETS AND WAISTBAND LINED WITH WHITE COTTON. EDWARD WAS A MEMBER OF THE ALBERTA PROVINCIAL POLICE FROM 1919 UNTIL 1932 WHEN HE TRANSFERRED TO THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE. HE WAS A SENIOR STAFF SARGEANT, ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE AT LETHBRIDGE FROM MAY 1944 TO NOV. 1950. HE RETIRED IN 1950, THEN BECAME DIRECTOR OF CORRECTIONS FOR THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA. FOLLOWING RETIREMENT, EDWARD BECAME A MEMBER OF THE RCMP VETERAN'S ASSOCIATION IN 1950/51 IN EDMONTON AND REMAINED A MEMBER UNTIL HIS PASSING; HE ALSO SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THIS ASSOCIATION. PAIR OF BLACK LEATHER ANKLE BOOTS. BLACK SHOELACES. AT TOP OF EACH BOOT ON INSIDE OF ANKLE THE LETTERS "MP" ARE PERFORATED INTO LEATHER. STAMPED INSIDE EACH BOOT IS "E 80 1450 A I". BOOTS HAVE BROWN LEATHER SOLES. EMBOSSED ON HEEL OF BOOTS IS "WINGFOOT GOOD YEAR".
