EMBOSSED ON EACH BUTTON IS A BEAVER ON A BRANCH, BETWEEN THE WORDS "CANADIAN PACIFIC". THERE ARE TWO SIMILAR BUTTONS ON EACH CUFF, EXCEPT SMALLER. LEFT CUFF ALSO HAS 8 BRASS BARS SEWN ON VERTICALLY. THERE ARE TWO DOUBLE BESOM POCKETS ON OUTER RIGHT HIP. THERE IS ALSO A DOUBLE BESOM POCKET ON OUTER LEFT HIP, AND A WELT POCKET ON OUTER, LEFT BREAST. THERE ARE MATCHING POCKETS ON INSIDE OF COAT. INSIDE OF COAT IS LINED WITH BLACK SATIN, EXCEPT FOR POCKETS AND SLEEVES WHICH ARE LINED WITH IVORY COTTON. LINING ON INSIDE RIGHT OF JACKET IS FRAYED.

INFORMATION WAS GATHERED FROM EMAIL CONTACT WITH ROBERT’S GREAT NIECE NOREEN BISHOP, AND THE 1981 OYEN & DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOOK MANY TRAILS CROSSED HERE. IT WAS FOUND THAT ROBERT ERNEST “BOB” BISHOP WAS BORN IN DAVENPORT, NORTH DAKOTA ON MARCH 27TH 1903, AND IMMIGRATED TO CANADA IN 1910 WITH HIS FAMILY. THEY CAME TO HOMESTEAD IN EXCEL, ALBERTA. BISHOP STARTED WORKING FOR THE CPR IN 1923 AS A PART TIME JOB, AND ON NOVEMBER 12TH 1925 HE MARRIED MAY FLORA LITTLEFORD ON THE FARM IN EXCEL. IN ADDITION TO HIS RAIL JOB HE ALSO RAN THE STORE IN EXCEL. WHEN WAR BROKE OUT IN 1939, BISHOP BEGAN WORKING FULL TIME FOR THE CPR. HE LATER MOVED TO KELOWNA, B.C. LIGHT BLUE COLLARED SHIRT. THERE ARE SEVEN WHITE, PEARLIZED BUTTONS DOWN THE FRONT OF THE SHIRT. THERE ARE TWO POCKETS, EACH WITH ONE BUTTON, ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CHEST. A LOGO IS EMBROIDERED ON THE LEFT CHEST WITH “LHB” IN WHITE. THE LOGO IS AN INVERTED MAROON TRIANGLE WITH A WHITE BORDER. THERE IS A PARTIAL HANDICAP SYMBOL IN THE CENTER, EMBROIDERED IN WHITE. THE INSIDE TAG ON THE BACK OF THE COLLAR READS, “MARK’S … XL”. THE TAG STATES IT IS A COTTON/POLYESTER SHIRT. THE SLEEVES ARE 61.5 CM LONG. VERY GOOD – EXCELLENT CONDITION. THERE IS A LOOSE THREAD AT THE TOP BUTTON, NEAR THE COLLAR AND ONE ON THE INSIDE TRIM AT THE FRONT BOTTOM LEFT SIDE.

THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION WAS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT BEGAN IN 1975 WHEN THE KIWANIS CLUB DONATED THE FIRST VAN. ON AUGUST 1, 2007 – AFTER 32 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY – THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE CITY OF LETHBRIDGE. AT THAT POINT, THE ASSOCIATION HAD A FLEET OF 20 BUSES – MANY OF WHICH WERE DONATED BY LOCAL SERVICE CLUBS – THAT WERE ALL TRANSFERRED TO THE CITY. THE NAME OF THE SERVICE BECAME ACCESS-A-RIDE UNDER THE CITY’S MANAGEMENT. THESE ARTIFACTS WERE DONATED BY A LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER, LYNN SPRING. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION HAS BEEN EXTRACTED FROM AN INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY COLLECTIONS TECHNICIAN KEVIN MACLEAN ON APRIL 12, 2016 WITH SPRING. HE EXPLAINS, “I WAS A MEMBER OF THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI BUS BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR HALF A DOZEN YEARS AT LEAST AND SOME OF THESE ITEMS WERE GIVEN TO ME BY THE DRIVERS. THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI BUS STARTED IN 1975 AND ABOUT SEVEN YEARS AGO, LETHBRIDGE HANDI BUS STOPPED THEIR CHARTER AS A NOT- FOR -PROFIT ORGANIZATION BECAUSE OF THE NATIONAL RULING IN TRANSPORTATION THAT MUNICIPALITIES WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCESSIBILITY RIDES, HANDICAP TRANSPORTATION. SO THE CITY TOOK OVER ALL OF THE BUSES, THEY PURCHASED THEM AND MOST OF THE DRIVERS WENT OVER TO THE CITY OF LETHBRIDGE BECAUSE WE HAD, I BELIEVE, TWENTY-SIX AT THAT TIME AND YOU JUST DON’T JUST DON’T FIND TWENTY-SIX DRIVERS. THAT WAS PART OF THE AGREEMENT ON SALE THAT THEY WOULD TAKE THE BUSES. WE TOOK OUR PLATES OFF AND THE NEXT DAY CITY PUT THEIR PLATES ON AND THEIR INSURANCE. THE DRIVERS WENT OVER EVENTUALLY. THEY WERE WEARING THE CITY TRANSIT, LETHBRIDGE CITY TRANSIT UNIFORMS.” OF HIS TIME AS A BOARD MEMBER, SPRING SAID, “I CAME TO LETHBRIDGE IN [2005]… THE MANAGER OF THE DAY, MURRAY CAMPBELL, WAS A LONGTIME FRIEND OF MINE AND HE ASKED ME [TO BE ON THE BOARD], AND I THOUGHT WELL IT IS A VERY WORTHWHILE ORGANIZATION. IT WAS A NOT-FOR -PROFIT ORGANIZATION AND DIDN’T INVOLVE A LOT OF HOURS.” SPRING WAS ON THE BOARD UNTIL 2011. SPRING REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS “A COLLECTOR AT HEART” AND AS A RESULT GATHERED THE DONATED ARTIFACTS DURING THE LAST DAYS OF THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION IN 2011. THEY WERE IN HIS POSSESSION FOR 5 TO 7 YEARS. HE EXPLAINS, “WELL I WAS ONE OF THREE THAT CLOSED DOWN AND CLOSED OUT HANDI BUS. WE HAD TO FILE WITH TAX CANADA AND OF COURSE, WORKERS COMP AND ALL THOSE THINGS SO FINALLY WE’RE AT THAT STAGE WHERE WE CAN GET RID OF A LOT OF THE PAPER RECORDS. IT PROMPTED THAT I SHOULD MAYBE DONATE THESE TO THE GALT MUSEUM FOR PROSPERITY… [T]HAT’S JUST MY NATURE, I GUESS, TO RETAIN THINGS AND SAY ‘WELL SOMEBODY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS IN A FUTURE DATE.’” SPRING WOULD HAVE WORN THIS SHIRT AS A BOARD MEMBER: ”WE WOULD WEAR THAT AT FUNDRAISERS AND DIFFERENT OCCASIONS LIKE THAT. THE ODD TIME AT THE BOARD MEETINGS, BUT MAINLY THE FUNDRAISERS, OR WHEN WE HAD MEDIA PEOPLE OR, SOME RECORDING OF THAT NATURE.” IT IS IDENTICAL TO THE SHIRTS WORN BY THE HANDI-BUS DRIVERS. SPRING DESCRIBES THE SHIRT’S DESIGN, “IT’S A DENIM SHIRT, AND OF COURSE A LOT OF OUR MATERIAL WAS FROM MARK’S WORK WAREHOUSE AS YOU SEE ON THE LABEL. REFLECTIVE HARNESS MADE FROM ELASTIC, NEON YELLOW MATERIAL. THERE IS SILVER, REFLECTIVE COATING DOWN THE CENTER OF THE WHOLE HARNESS. THE HARNESS IS SUSPENDER STYLE AND CROSSES AT THE BACK. THERE IS A BLACK PLASTIC BUCKLE AT THE FRONT CENTER OF THE WAIST AND 4 BLACK PLASTIC STRAP ADJUSTORS ON EACH STRAP (ONE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE WAIST). THE TAG IS PLACED WHERE THE TWO SHOULDER STRAPS CROSS AND READS “NORTH… LOT 113485 APR/13/2006”. SIDE STRAPS ARE EACH APPROXIMATELY 122 CM IN LENGTH AND 3.7 CM IN WIDTH. THE WAIST BAND IS THE SAME WIDTH AND 111.5 IN LENGTH. GOOD CONDITION: MINOR WEAR/LOSS OF THE SILVER REFLECTIVE COATING. THERE IS SLIGHT STAINING OVERALL WITH A LARGE, RED STAIN ON THE INSIDE OF THE RIGHT STRAP (ON PERSON) OF THE HARNESS. THERE ARE LOOSE THREADS ON MANY PLACES OF THE SEAMS.

IT’S NOT LIKE YOUR OTHER TRANSIT WHERE THE DRIVER STAYS IN THE SEAT, PEOPLE ARE AMBULATORY AND GET OFF AND ON. A HANDI BUS DRIVER HAS A LOT MORE WORK TO DO IN THAT HE UNLOADS, HE HAS TO LOWER THE RAMP, LOCK DOWN THE WHEELCHAIR, HAS TO MAKE SURE IT’S A CERTAIN REVERSE DIRECTION SO THE WEIGHT DISPLACEMENT COMES UP. THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION WAS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT BEGAN IN 1975 WHEN THE KIWANIS CLUB DONATED THE FIRST VAN. ON AUGUST 1, 2007 – AFTER 32 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY – THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE CITY OF LETHBRIDGE. AT THAT POINT, THE ASSOCIATION HAD A FLEET OF 20 BUSES – MANY OF WHICH WERE DONATED BY LOCAL SERVICE CLUBS – THAT WERE ALL TRANSFERRED TO THE CITY. THE NAME OF THE SERVICE BECAME ACCESS-A-RIDE UNDER THE CITY’S MANAGEMENT. THESE ARTIFACTS WERE DONATED BY A LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER, LYNN SPRING. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION HAS BEEN EXTRACTED FROM AN INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY COLLECTIONS TECHNICIAN KEVIN MACLEAN ON APRIL 12, 2016 WITH SPRING. HE EXPLAINS, “I WAS A MEMBER OF THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI BUS BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR HALF A DOZEN YEARS AT LEAST AND SOME OF THESE ITEMS WERE GIVEN TO ME BY THE DRIVERS. THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI BUS STARTED IN 1975 AND ABOUT SEVEN YEARS AGO, LETHBRIDGE HANDI BUS STOPPED THEIR CHARTER AS A NOT- FOR -PROFIT ORGANIZATION BECAUSE OF THE NATIONAL RULING IN TRANSPORTATION THAT MUNICIPALITIES WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCESSIBILITY RIDES, HANDICAP TRANSPORTATION. SO THE CITY TOOK OVER ALL OF THE BUSES, THEY PURCHASED THEM AND MOST OF THE DRIVERS WENT OVER TO THE CITY OF LETHBRIDGE BECAUSE WE HAD, I BELIEVE, TWENTY-SIX AT THAT TIME AND YOU JUST DON’T JUST DON’T FIND TWENTY-SIX DRIVERS. THAT WAS PART OF THE AGREEMENT ON SALE THAT THEY WOULD TAKE THE BUSES. WE TOOK OUR PLATES OFF AND THE NEXT DAY CITY PUT THEIR PLATES ON AND THEIR INSURANCE. THE DRIVERS WENT OVER EVENTUALLY. THEY WERE WEARING THE CITY TRANSIT, LETHBRIDGE CITY TRANSIT UNIFORMS.” OF HIS TIME AS A BOARD MEMBER, SPRING SAID, “I CAME TO LETHBRIDGE IN [2005]… THE MANAGER OF THE DAY, MURRAY CAMPBELL, WAS A LONGTIME FRIEND OF MINE AND HE ASKED ME [TO BE ON THE BOARD], AND I THOUGHT WELL IT IS A VERY WORTHWHILE ORGANIZATION. IT WAS A NOT-FOR -PROFIT ORGANIZATION AND DIDN’T INVOLVE A LOT OF HOURS.” SPRING WAS ON THE BOARD UNTIL 2011. SPRING REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS “A COLLECTOR AT HEART” AND AS A RESULT GATHERED THE DONATED ARTIFACTS DURING THE LAST DAYS OF THE LETHBRIDGE HANDI-BUS ASSOCIATION IN 2011. THEY WERE IN HIS POSSESSION FOR 5 TO 7 YEARS. HE EXPLAINS, “WELL I WAS ONE OF THREE THAT CLOSED DOWN AND CLOSED OUT HANDI BUS. WE HAD TO FILE WITH TAX CANADA AND OF COURSE, WORKERS COMP AND ALL THOSE THINGS SO FINALLY WE’RE AT THAT STAGE WHERE WE CAN GET RID OF A LOT OF THE PAPER RECORDS. IT PROMPTED THAT I SHOULD MAYBE DONATE THESE TO THE GALT MUSEUM FOR PROSPERITY… [T]HAT’S JUST MY NATURE, I GUESS, TO RETAIN THINGS AND SAY ‘WELL SOMEBODY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS IN A FUTURE DATE.’” THE WINTER JACKET WAS WORN BY A DRIVER NAMED WAYNE HALES WHO WAS ONE OF THE LHB EMPLOYEES WHO TRANSFERRED TO THE CITY WHEN THE ORGANIZATION WAS TAKEN OVER. WHEN SPRING WAS GATHERING ITEMS RELATED TO THE ASSOCIATION HE REACHED OUT TO HALES: “I SPOKE WITH WAYNE HALES, AND SAID I HAD SOME OTHER THINGS DID HE HAVE ANYTHING? SWEATER USED BY GOAL KEEPER CARL SORKOSKI (DECEASED CA 1980) OF LETHBRIDGE MAPLE LEAFS HOCKEY TEAM. JERSEY GIVEN TO DONOR BY WIDOW OF ORIGINAL OWNER KARL SOROKOSKI. MCLEAN GIVEN JERSEY ON ACCOUNT OF HIS LONGSTANDING FRIENDSHIP WITH SOROKOSKI AND BECAUSE THEY WERE TEAMMATES. BOTH PLAYED MINOR HOCKEY TOGETHER AND BOTH JOINED THE LEAFS IN 1947 – MCLEAN AS A LEFT WINGER AND SOROKOSKI AS ONE OF TWO GOALIES. MCLEAN FELT SOROKOSKI WAS ONE OF THE BEST GOALKEEPERS HE’D EVER PLAYED WITH. DETROIT TRIED TO RECRUIT HIM, ENTICING HIM TO A SUMMER HOCKEY CAMP, BUT SOROKOSKI CHOSE TO RETURN TO LETHBRIDGE IN ORDER TO RUN THE FAMILY STORE RATHER THAN PURSUE A HOCKEY CAREER. MCLEAN CLAIMED THE JERSEY WAS USED THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF THE LETHBRIDGE MAPLE LEAFS, BUT THAT ANOTHER (AWAY) JERSEY WAS WORN WHEN THEY REPRESENTED CANADA IN EUROPE. THE WORLD CUP JERSEY WAS NOT UNLIKE THE JERSEYS STILL WORN BY TEAM CANADA TODAY. THE BLUE JERSEYS WERE HELD IN HIGH ESTEEM AND WERE GIVEN TO PLAYERS WHO PLAYED ON THE LEAF’S TEAM. PLAYERS REALLY LIKED THE JERSEY AND WERE PROUD TO WEAR THEM. MCLEAN RECOUNTED PLAYING IN OUTDOOR ARENAS IN THE POURING RAIN WHILE THEY WERE IN EUROPE. THE TEAM, HE CLAIMED, RECEIVED VERY LITTLE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM THE CITY OR CANADA WHILE THEY WERE TRAVELING. THEY DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE ENOUGH MONEY TO COVER THE RENT FOR THEIR HOMES IN CANADA. THE MONEY WAS DIVIDED GIVING THE MARRIED MEN AND LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THE SINGLE MEN, AND MOST OF THE PLAYERS HAD TO GET FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM THEIR FAMILIES AND THE FEW BUSINESS SPONSORS THEY COULD FIND. THE TEAM EVEN BOUGHT THEIR OWN WORLD CUP RINGS WHEN THEY RETURNED BECAUSE THE CITY OFFERED THEM NO FINANCIAL SUPPORT. UNIFORMS WERE DONATED BY THE RAYMOND BUDDHIST TEMPLE AND ARE 100% WOOL. FELLOW, “BUSSEI” TEAMMATE SHIG NAKAGAWA TOLD GALT STAFF IN 2011, “BUSSEI IS A SHORT FORM OF JAPANESE YOUNG BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION OR TO THAT EFFECT”. AS THE YOUNGEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM AT AGE 16, SASSA WAS INCLUDED BECAUSE THEY NEEDED MORE PLAYERS TO FORM A FULL TEAM. OTHER TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE INCLUDED TABER/BARNWELL, MAGRATH, PICTURE BUTTE, RAYMOND, LETHBRIDGE AND COALDALE. NAKAGAWA SAID, “OUR PARENTS WERE THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS TEAM. THEY WERE THE RIGOROUS SUPPORTERS. MIND YOU WE HAD TO WORK THE SUGAR BEETS TO GO OUT TO THIS. WE PUT OUR SHARE IN.” PLAYERS ON THE TEAM WOULD WORK DURING THE DAY IN THE SUGAR BEET FIELDS, AND GO TO PRACTICES AFTER WORK. SASSA SAID, “WELL IT WAS ONLY ON SUNDAYS THAT WE PLAYED [GAMES], AND IF WE HAD TO GO OUT OF TOWN, YOU’D HAVE TO LEAVE QUITE EARLY. YOU WOULD DO A FEW ROWS OF BEETS BEFORE YOU LEFT AND QUICKLY EAT, AND THEN GET CHANGED, AND MEET AT THE CHURCH AND AWAY WE’D GO.” THE TEAM NEVER TOOK A BUS [BUT] INSTEAD CARPOOLED. SASSA SAID, “A LOT OF THESE OLDER GUYS HAD FAMILY CARS THEY WERE ABLE TO DRIVE. LIKE MYSELF I WAS TOO YOUNG AND NEVER HAD A CAR, SO I WOULD ALWAYS GET A RIDE. IT WAS NO PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS A SHORTAGE OF MONEY, AND I REMEMBER COMING HOME FROM PICTURE BUTTE, OR COALDALE, OR TABER AND IT’S EVENING AND IT’S TIME TO STOP FOR DINNER. THEY WOULD ALWAYS WANT TO STOP IN AT THE CHINESE RESTAURANT IN LETHBRIDGE. I WOULDN’T HAVE ANY MONEY, BUT THESE OLDER GUYS WOULD HAVE THE MONEY, AND THEY WOULD ALWAYS FORCE ME INTO GOING INTO THE RESTAURANT TO BUY ME SUPPER. AND I TELL YOU I’LL NEVER FORGET THE FELLAS THAT PAID MY LUNCHES AND SUPPERS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. IT WAS HARD. SO NOW, WHEN I TOOK MY BOYS OUT OF TOWN TO HOCKEY TOURNAMENTS AND HOCKEY GAMES, THERE’S ALWAYS SOME PEOPLE THAT DIDN’T SEND THEIR CHILDREN WITH MONEY AND IT DIDN’T BOTHER ME ONE BIT TO BUY THEM LUNCHES AND MEALS WHEREVER WE WENT. THESE KNEE PADS WERE USED BY SERGEANT GEORGE CARSCADDEN DURING HIS SERVICE WITH THE LETHBRIDGE REGIONAL POLICE TACTICAL UNIT FROM 1999 TO 2012. CARSCADDEN JOINED THE LETHBRIDGE POLICE IN 1997, AFTER WORKING WITH THE PEEL REGIONAL POLICE SERVICES IN THE GREATER TORONTO AREA FROM 1988 TO 1997. DURING HIS CAREER IN PEEL, CARSCADDEN RECEIVED SPECIAL TRAINING, INCLUDING COMPLETING THE FBI’S OBSERVER/SNIPER COURSE, WHICH INFORMED HIS APPLICATION AND ACCEPTANCE TO THE TACTICAL UNIT IN LETHBRIDGE. CARSCADDEN DESCRIBED HIS USE OF THESE KNEE PADS AS SUCH: “I PUT THEM ON AND I WEAR THEM UNDERNEATH MY PANTS… THEY PROTECT YOUR KNEES. IF YOU’RE ON AN UNSTABLE PLATFORM, YOU NEED YOUR KNEES. CARSCADDEN SAID: “FIRST OF ALL, I JUST WENT AS A QUARRY… ALL DIFFERENT SPECIALTY UNITS THAT HAVE SOME KIND OF TACTICAL SCENARIO LIKE TO HAVE QUARRIES TO [HELP TRAIN THEM] TO DO THEIR JOB BETTER, SO I THOUGHT ‘I’LL GO WORK AS A QUARRY TO SHOW THEM I’M INTERESTED’. A QUARRY IS GENERALLY A BAD GUY – YOU PRETEND YOU’RE HIDING, OR MOVING OR YELLING OR RUNNING AWAY AND TRYING TO EVADE THEM, AND THEY ARE TRYING TO CAPTURE YOU… IT TOOK A COUPLE OF YEARS, BUT I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH… IN THE MOVEMENT OF THE TEAM THAT THERE WERE [POSITIONS OPEN]… THERE IS A PHYSICAL, AND INTERVIEW, SOME TESTS… I WENT THROUGH AND STUDIED, AND DID THE BEST THAT I COULD… MAKING SURE YOU ARE IN GOOD PHYSICAL SHAPE BECAUSE YOU ARE CARRYING AN EXTRA 50 POUNDS OF GEAR… THAT’S JUST THE GEAR THAT YOU ARE CARRYING ON YOURSELF, NOT A RAM OR DIFFERENT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT THAT YOU MIGHT BE MOVING INTO PLACE FOR DIFFERENT TACTICS… I WAS AROUND 35 [YEARS OLD]. I WAS AN OLDER GUY APPLYING FOR THIS POSITION, BUT I WAS IN GOOD SHAPE AND HAD SOME GOOD EXPERIENCES THAT MADE ME COMPETITIVE, SO I DON’T THINK YOUR AGE TAKES YOU OUT OF THE EQUATION IF YOU ARE REALLY DETERMINED.” CARSCADDEN CONTINUED: “I’VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN A LOT OF DIFFERENT POSITIONS WITHIN [THE TACTICAL] UNIT… I STARTED OFF AS AN ASSAULTER… THE PERSON WHO CARRIES ALL THE GEAR, SO YOU’RE IN THE BACK… THE LAST PERSON THAT COMES IN. IT’S A GOOD POSITION TO START OFF WITH. IT MAKES IT SAFER FOR WHEN YOU’RE GOING INTO THESE HIGH-RISK ENVIRONMENTS… FROM THERE I WAS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE OBSERVER, THEN A SNIPER, THEN FROM THERE… A BREECHER. SO YOU ARE BREECHING DOORS AND WINDOWS. [THEN] I WENT TO THE FRONT OF THE TACTICAL LINE-UP, WHICH IS THE SCOUT… THEN THE LAST SIX YEARS THAT I WAS ON THE TACTICAL TEAM, I WAS THE PERSON IN CHARGE, THE TEAM LEADER… AND I WAS RUNNING OPERATIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR CANINE UNIT AND OUR EXPLOSIVES DISPOSAL UNIT… THE TRAINING IS REALLY GOOD. [THE TEAM] TRAINS EVERY TWO WEEKS, AND DO LOTS OF MOVEMENTS AND SHOOTING AND TACTICS. IT’S A PERISHABLE SKILL, THAT IF YOU DON’T REPEAT AND PRACTICE IT ALL THE TIME, IT DIMINISHES… PRACTICE IS IMPORTANT. IT ALLOWS YOU TO BE BETTER AT YOUR GAME... YOU NEED TO HAVE A MINDSET [OF] BEING NOT ONLY PHYSICALLY TOUGH, BUT MENTALLY TOUGH, WHEN YOU DEAL WITH THINGS IN A HIGH-RISK ENVIRONMENT… YOU’VE GOT TO HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF DRIVE TO GET YOU THROUGH THINGS.” CARSCADDEN CONCLUDED: “ONE OF THE THINGS I’M PROUD OF ON THE TACTICAL SIDE IS THAT I WAS THE OFFICER WHO WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING LESS LETHAL CAPABILITY TO THE TEAM… [WE] MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN SAVING SOMEBODY’S LIFE. SUIT JACKET, NAVY BLUE, DOUBLE BREASTED WITH EIGHT BRASS BUTTONS. EACH BOTTOM HAS EMBOSSED, “CANADIAN PACIFIC” WITH BEAVER MOTIF IN CENTER. EACH CUFF HAS TWO SMALL BRASS BUTTONS WITH SAME DECORATION. WIDE PEAKED LAPELS WITH ONE BUTTON HOLE ON EACH SIDE. POCKETS AT FRONT ON LEFT AND RIGHT WITH SQUARE CUT FLAPS. FRONT LEFT BREAST POCKET WITHOUT FLAP. PADDED SHOULDERS. INSIDE HAS BLACK POLYESTER LINING WITH SEAM AT BOTTOM DETACHED IN PLACES. RIGHT AND LEFT BREAST POCKETS. INSIDE RIGHT BREAST POCKET IS TAG THAT READS, “GORDON CAMPBELL LTD., VANCOUVER, CANADA, MR. B. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION PROVIDED BY DONOR DOUG HEGLAND AT THE TIME OF DONATION, THE JACKET WAS ACQUIRED IN 1983 FROM A LOCKER AT THE "OLD STATION" IN LETHBRIDGE WHEN STAFF MOVED TO A NEW TRAIN STATION AT KIPP YARD. THE DONOR FOUND THE JACKET AS A RESULT OF WANTING SOME OF THE STATION’S OLD LOCKERS. DONOR STARTED A CAREER WITH THE CPR IN 1978. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION SOLICITED FROM BRUNO BACEDA’S SON LONNIE IN FEBRUARY 2012, “BRUNO BACEDA LIVED IN THE LETHBRIDGE AREA HIS WHOLE LIFE. HE WAS A BAGGAGE MASTER WITH THE CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY IN 1959 AND WORKED FOR A WHILE AS CONDUCTOR.” ACCORDING TO HIS OBITUARY IN THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD, “BRUNO JOHN BACEDA PASSED AWAY IN LETHBRIDGE ON DECEMBER 13, 2004 AT THE AGE OF 76.
