COSTUME WAS HANDMADE BY DONOR'S MOTHER, AND WAS WORN ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS.

HALF APRON. MATERIAL HAS A GREEN, YELLOW, AND WHITE FLORAL PATTERN ON A LIGHT TURQUOISE BACKGROUND. EDGES ARE TRIMMED WITH RED BIAS TAPE. FRONT OF APRON IS MADE OF THREE U-SHAPED PANELS, WITH THE CENTER ONE OVERLAPPING THE OUTER TWO. THE PANELS EACH HAVE A FEW PLEATS IN THEM. THE PANELS ARE SEWN TO A WAISTBAND, WHICH IS EXTENDED TO FORM TIES, WHICH ARE TRIMMED WITH RED BIAS TAPE.

BLACK ROBE OF THE OBLATES, NOT WORN SINCE VATICAN II (1962). OBLATES ACTIVE IN LETHBRIDGE AREA SINCE 1ST BAPTISM AT FORT HAMILTON BY FATHER SCOLLEN IN 1873. FATHER VAN TIGHEM CELEBRATED THE 1ST MASS IN 1884 IN COALBANKS. THEREAFTER ESTABLISHING A PARISH IN 1886 & BUILDING 1ST ST. PATRICKS CHURCH IN 1887 IN SEPTEMBER VAN TIGHEM MOVED TO NEW PARISH AS ITS PRIEST. THE OBLATE OF MARY IMMACULATE (OMI) HISTORICALLY SOMETIMES CALLED THE BLACKROBES BECAUSE OF THEIR CHARACTERISTIC BLACK ROBES. THE OBLATES ARE RETIRING FROM LETHBRIDGE IN JULY .1990. THIS ROBE WAS NORMALLY WORN WITH A CINCTURE OR BELT SNAP FASTENED AT THE WAIST WITH A LARGE CROSS (12.7 X 20.4) & HUNG BY A CORD FROM THE NECK.

FULL APRON. MADE FROM WHITE CANVAS. BOTTOM IS FOLDED UPWARD AND SEWN TO FORM A POUCH, DIVIDED INTO TWO. THERE ARE TWO GROMMETS AT TOP OF APRON (NECK STRING IS MISSING), AND TWO GROMMETS AT SIDES OF APRON. ONE SIDE HAS A WHITE SHOELACE TIED TO IT, THE OTHER HAS A BLACK SHOELACE TIED TO IT. ON FRONT OF APRON READS "MURRAY BRANTFORD" IN BLACK. IN THE CENTER OF THE TWO WORDS IS A RED "M" AND BELOW THIS IS A GREY RECTANGLE, WITH TWO WHITE STRIPS IN THE CENTER. BOTTOM SEAM HAS BEEN REPAIRED A NUMBER OF TIMES.
