PLANE WAS MADE AFTER THE HISTORIC FLIGHT OF "WRONG-WAY CORRIGAN" IN 1937. CORRIGAN COULDN'T OBTAIN PERMISSION FOR SOLO FLIGHT FROM NEWFOUNDLAND TO ENGLAND SO INDICATED HE WOULD FLY TO NEW YORK. HE CHANGED COURSE AND WAS NEXT HEARD FROM WHEN HE LANDED IN IRELAND. THE MODEL IS CALLED THE "CURTISROBIN" & IS AN EXACT SCALE MODEL. MODEL WON 1ST PRIZE IN HOBBY SHOW - UNKNOWN YEAR. MODEL IS OF A CUSTOM CAVALIER AIRCRAFT. **** UPDATE: THIS MODEL AIRCRAFT WAS HIGHLIGHTED AS PART OF A FACT OR FICTION PROGRAM IN MARCH 2013. ELEMENTARY RESEARCH AT THAT TIME INCLUDED A QUICK SURVEY OF THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD. REFERENCES TO A “BOB WANLESS” WINNING “GAS-MOTORED (AIRCRAFT) MODEL” COMPETITIONS WERE PRINTED IN THE HERALD IN BOTH 1938 AND 1939. TO SEE THE HERALD CLIPPINGS AS WELL AS A 1969 LETTER FROM THE DONOR, PLEASE REFERENCE THE PERMANENT FILE.
