The original map was drawn for the north west company by David Thompson, and based on the work of John Stuart. Mr. Graspointer obtained this copy from an unidentified geologist in Calgary, who owns the original map.

The map is a reproduction of part of an original chart of the region lying between 46 and 60 degrees north latitude, and 84 and 184 degrees west longitude. This reproduction shows the area between 48 and 55 degrees north latitude, and 108 and 124 degrees west longitude. The region includes Nelson's mountains, and portions of the Saskatchewan, Athabasca, Red Deer, and Bow rivers, as they were known in 1812.
