Custodial History
The donor's husband Zygmunt Niebelski was born in 20 June, 1913 in Stanislawow, Poland. Zygmunt was a civilian prior to the second world war and worked as a tool maker for the railways. Alfter the Russian Invasion he worked for the Polish underground for the resistance paper. He was captured by Russians in late 1939 or early 1940. In 1941 following the German Invasion of Russia, the captured polish were given the option of supporting the British or Russia Armys. Nebelski made his way to Tel Aviv where the Polish Corps assembed. The corp was attached to the British 8th Army. He fought in North Africa, Sicily, Italy (Monte Cassino). Zygmunt met wife Joan in September of 1946. She had worked in the Services Canteen. They married August 23, 1947. The couple emmigrated to Argentina in 1948 where Zygmunt contined to work as a tool and dye maker. They returned to England in 1951 and Zygmunt immigrated to Canada in 1952 and settled in Edmonton. Joan followed in 1953. He worked as a packer in construction and as an airplane body repairer (Department of National Defense in Maintenance.) He retired in 1978 and Joan and he moved to Lethbridge.
