History / Biographical
The Chinook Country Tourist Association was a stakeholder-based, not-for-profit organization that supported and inspired tourism by providing stakeholder, marketing, and visitor information services. It was associated with Travel Alberta, and the company was based in Lethbridge. The Chinook Country Tourist Association promoted tourism and travel throughout Southern Alberta. The Chinook Country Tourist Association produced a number of annual publications that are distributed throughout Southern Alberta, including “Alberta South” travel planners and guides, multiple brochures, and maps. They worked to promote the Southern Alberta area to tourists from all over the world. The CCTA had been in Lethbridge for 50 years and operated one of the few year-round visitor centres in Southern Alberta. The Association’s executive director Nikolaus Wyslouzil announced that in March 2019, the Chinook Country Tourist Association would dissolve and cease all operations in Lethbridge.

History / Biographical
Wladystaw (Walter) Zahorejko was born in Zborow area, Poland (now Ukraine) in 1904. He immigrated to Canada with his wife Weronica (Veronica, nee Cyma) in 1927. In a few years they arranged for their son Kazimiers Zahorejko to join them in Canada. In Lethbridge the family lived on 20th Street North with his wife and four children. Wladystaw Zahorejko worked for the CP Rail Company as a CPR section-man from 1934 to 1939. He died as a result of a heart attack while repairing the railway track between Champion & Carmangay, AB on April 28 1939. Aftern his death, his family moved to Coleman.

Elsie (Elizabeth) Morris was born October 5, 1928 to parents, William (Wasily) Konkin and Elizabeth Konkin (nee Wishlow). ELSIE WAS MARRIED TO TERRANCE GORDON “TERRY” MORRIS. According to his obituary, “Terry met his future wife Elizabeth (Elsie) Morris (nee Konkin) while teaching in Edmonton. They were married in 1961 and had two children David and Sara. The family moved to Nelson, BC before settling in Lethbridge in 1969. Terry taught in Lethbridge where his love of children and books kept him in the classroom until retirement in 1986. His passion for making a difference in his community led him to get involved in the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital Board, the Lethbridge Public Library Board, the Provincial Mental Health Advisory Committee, and the Lethbridge Public School Board” (2012). TERRY PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 88 ON OCTOBER 25, 2012. William Konkin was born in Verigin, SK September 20, 1904. William Konkin was the oldest of three boys, followed by John and Fred. He worked as a taxi driver and a construction worker in Trail, B.C. WILLIAM KONKIN PASSED AWAY MARCH 3, 1977 AT THE AGE OF 72. ELIZABETH KONKIN (NEE WISHLOW) WAS BORN IN CANORA, SK ON JANUARY 22, 1907, THE DAUGHTER OF PETER AND ELIZABETH WISHLOW (nee Nohornoff). AT THE AGE OF 6 SHE MOVED WITH HER FAMILY TO A DOUKHOBOR SETTLEMENT AT BRILLIANT, BC, THEN LATER HER FAMILY MOVED TO A DOUKHOBOR SETTLEMENT AT SHOULDICE, AB. IT WAS HERE THAT SHE MET AND MARRIED WILLIAM KONKIN. IN 1939, THE COUPLE MOVED TO THE VAUXHALL AREA TO FARM UNTIL THEIR RETIREMENT, AFTER WHICH THEY MOVED TO LETHBRIDGE. ELIZABETH PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 93 ON APRIL 8, 2000. SEE PERMANENT FILE FOR COPIES OF THE ARTICLES FROM THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD. THE KONKINS WERE A RUSSIAN-SPEAKING FAMILY FROM THE TOWN OF SHOULDICE, ALBERTA, NEAR CALGARY. THEY AND MANY OTHER RUSSIAN FAMILIES COMPOSED THAT TOWN'S DOUKHOBOR COLONY. IN 2016, COLLECTIONS TECHNICIAN KEVIN MACLEAN CONDUCTED FROM A TWO-PART INTERVIEW WITH KONKIN'S DAUGHTER, ELSIE MORRIS. A FULL HISTORY OF THE KONKIN FAMILY WAS CREATED USING THAT INTERVIEW AND CAN BE FOUND WITH THE RECORD P20160003002.
