Standpipe at the corner of 14th Street and 6th Avenue South, one of two in the city which was to be removed following the construction of a new overhead water storage tank in 1956 at 3rd Avenue and Mayor Magrath Drive.. The standpipes were used to provide pressure in city water mains but where made obsolete with the completion in June, 1955 of the new reservoir pumping system. The standpipes were kept full for a time as a standby measure for the reservoir system. (“Still Using 2 Standpipes,” Lethbridge Herald, Aug. 12, 1955)
