History
ALL ARTIFACTS WERE MADE BY DONOR'S GREAT GRANDMOTHER, ALIZ (SOMMERS) GLAZIER (EXCEPT SHOES & TABLECLOTH), WIFE OF RE. ADAM GLAZIER OF CAPE CROKER, INDIGENOUS RESERVATION IN ONTARIO (1860-70). DAUGHTER ELIZABETH JANE (GLAZIER) STEWERT MARRIED THOMAS ADAM STEWART IN ONTARIO. MOVED & SETTLED IN PARKLAND, ALBERTA IN 1909 BRING HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. ARTIFACTS PASSED FROM MOTHER TO DAUGHTER (DONOR), BARBARA (STEWART) BASTEDO. *UPDATE* THE DONATION OF BARBARA BASTEDO WAS RESEARCHED AS PART OF A 2018 ARTIFACT SURVEY CONDUCTED BY COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT ELISE PUNDYK. ATTEMPTS MADE TO CONTACT THE DONOR TO ATTAIN FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE ITEMS' USE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. LETHBRIDGE-BASED ARCHIVAL RESEARCH CONDUCTED TO LOCATE FURTHER INFORMATION OF THE GLAZIER AND STEWART FAMILIES DID NOT COME UP WITH FURTHER RESULTS. *UPDATE* IN 2021 TWO COLLECTIONS ASSISTANTS, RYLEY GELINAS AND O. E., CONDUCTED AN AUDIT OF THE ROLLED TEXTILE COLLECTION, INCLUDING THIS ARTIFACT. RESEARCH CONDUCTED INTO THE DONOR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS MADE AVAILABLE AS A RESULT OF THE AUDIT WORK. *UPDATE* IN 2022, COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT NICOLE WILKINSON CONDUCTED A SURVEY OF AUDITED ARTIFACTS, INCLUDING P19790103000. RESEARCH CONDUCTED TO PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE DONOR AND THIS DONATION LEAD TO THE DISCOVERY OF ARCHIVAL RECORDS. THESE RECORDS INDICATE THE PROPER SPELLING OF ALIZ SOMMERS TO BE ELIZA SOMERS, AND THOMAS ADAM STEWART TO ACTUALLY BE THOMAS ANDREW STEWART. UNFORTUNATELY FURTHER FAMILY HISTORY COULD NOT BE FOUND. PLEASE SEE PERMANENT FILE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION AND ARCHIVAL RECORDS.

SEE P19920058006-GA FOR HISTORY. *UPDATE* IN 2015 COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT JANE EDMUNDSON CONDUCTED A SURVEY OF ART OBJECTS, INCLUDING ONE DONATED BY MARJORIE WELCH'S MOTHER, NORA EVERSON. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHERLOCK/MACLEOD FAMILY, SEE RECORDS P19960108000 AND P19740093000.
*UPDATE* IN 2021 TWO COLLECTIONS ASSISTANTS, RYLEY GELINAS AND O. E., CONDUCTED AN AUDIT OF THE ROLLED TEXTILE COLLECTION, INCLUDING SEVERAL TEXTILES DONATED BY MARJORIE AND JACK WELCH. ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2021, GELINAS INTERVIEWED PADDIE WALMSLEY, THE DONORS’ DAUGHTER, ABOUT HER PARENTS’ DONATION AND HER MEMORIES OF THE OBJECTS OF THIS DONATION, INCLUDING THE BONNET. WALMSLEY WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE BONNET AS LIKELY ORIGINATING ON THE SHERLOCK SIDE OF THE FAMILY, HOWEVER, SHE WAS UNABLE TO GIVE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE ORIGINS OF THE BONNET. WALMSLEY STATED THAT OBJECTS OF THE COLLECTION WERE DONATED TO THE MUSEUM BY HER PARENTS AS A WAY TO PRESERVE THE HISTORY: “SHE [MARJORIE WELCH] KNEW THE VALUE OF HISTORY AND THAT WAS KIND HER THING… AND MOM JUST WANTED, WOULD WANT SOMEBODY ELSE TO ENJOY THEM, AND YOU KNOW, TO KNOW THE HISTORY AND SEE IT.”

UNKNOWN PROVENANCE, BELIEVED CANADIAN. FOUND BY DONOR IN OLD RIVER CHANNEL CUT IN VICINITY OF ST. MARY'S - OLDMAN RIVER JUNCTION NEAR FT. WHOOP-UP SITE. ROUNDED BASE SUGGESTS THIS WAS A SODA BOTTLE, INABILITY TO STAND, THEREFORE DISALLOWING CORK STOPPER TO DRYOUT AND SHRINK. THICKNESS OF WALLS WOULD ALSO RESIST GAS PRESSURE. REF.
